Emerson Fittipaldi, a Brazilian racing driver and one of the rising stars in motorsport at the time, drove the Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 RSR for the Penske Racing Team in the 1973 IROC season. Fittipaldi already had experience in various racing series and was to hone his skills in the IROC series prove.
The 1973 IROC season consisted of several races in which successful drivers from different motorsport disciplines met. The races took place at different tracks and the drivers competed in identical vehicles to ensure equal opportunities.
